How to change a standard lightbulb
Check out our simple step-by-step guide on how to change a lightbulb in your home.
How do I change a standard lightbulb?
Step one
Step two
Let the lightbulb cool down before you touch it (you’d be surprised at how hot they can get!).
Step three
Make sure you can safely get to the lightbulb by using a sturdy step ladder.
Step four
Remove your old lightbulb - how you do this will depend on what sort of lightbulb you have.
If your lightbulb has a bayonet mount: gently push the lightbulb upwards and twist it anti-clockwise until it comes out of the socket.
If your lightbulb has a screw fitting: gently twist the lightbulb anti-clockwise until it comes out of the socket.
Step five
To fit your new lightbulb, you just need to gently push it into the socket and twist it clockwise until you feel it lock into place - if you have a screw fitting, you simply need to twist the lightbulb clockwise back into place.
Step six
Once your new lightbulb is in place, switch the power back on and flick the lightswitch on to make sure your new lightbulb is working.
